Going to multiple days of the races? Worried your tan won’t last and you’ll have to exfoliate head to toe and start again? We certainly hear you, and like us, it’s time you prepped your canvas to make this all important tan last as long as possible. Because, let’s face it, who likes putting on fake tan?
ONE: Cool showers.
After you’ve applied your tan and had your initial shower, any bathing you do after this needs to be on the cooler side. If you have a hot bath or shower, your skin will quickly become dehydrated and more and more skin cells will die. We love using a moisturising shower oil like the L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil to help lock-down your new gorgeous glow. Always steer clear from harsh soaps and exfoliating shower gels. They are not your friend.
TWO: Moisturise.
Drench your skin in moisture – your skin will LOVE you for it! Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise. This is the golden rule. Don’t break it. Keep those outermost skin cells hydrated and happy and they will stick around a lot longer than one day at the track.
THREE: Gradual tan.
Who doesn’t love a bit of Dove Summer Glow? This baby is tried and true and a staple behind our bathroom mirror. The beauty of this is that you can give your tan the life it needs with its intense moisturising properties but also give the colour itself a boost. It’s so natural and comes in a range of shades; it will continue to be our friend (and yours!) for many years to come!
FOUR: Bronzer.
We have been trialling a matte bronzer to help us recreate the ‘I’ve been hanging at the beach bar all day’ look. They say the trick is to swirl it where the sun naturally hits your skin, so that would be your forehead, temples, nose and cheekbones, rather than all-over. It’s important to remember that if we were all naturally bronzed beauties, we would never be the exact same colour from head to toe. Some variation is good!
FIVE: Drink water.
As we’ve said before and will say again, water is your friend. We are certainly guilty of not having our 8 glasses a day but for the sake of our skin and the photos this racing season, we’re giving it a red-hot crack. Hydration is key to keeping your epidermis (the outermost layer of skin) alive – sheading skin cells is very natural but if we can postpone this process just to keep your tan around a little longer, then we will make every effort to!
SIX: Wear white.
For the illusion of darker skin, white is a fool proof solution. Even in the final few days of your tan’s life, white can still help to give it the appearance it’s been resurrected. Derby Day might be the perfect opportunity for this, here are a few outfits that took out fancy.
After your initial application, and for the perfect finish, don’t forget to put on After Tan Co Bamboo Maxi Dress – it’s what you wear after fake tanning.
